In this session we will cover the importance of sanitizing greenhouse and nursery facilities, the critical steps to achieve good sanitation practices and how these practices affect plant health and prevent spread of pest and diseases.  We will go over a cases study focused on identifying critical control points of production to reduce disease risk and discuss best sanitation practices to achieve an effective pest control.

Panelists:

Dr. Ana Pastrana Leon, UC Cooperative Extension Imperial, Riverside and San Diego Counties.  With over a decade of experience, Ana has dedicated her career to researching the etiology, epidemiology, and management of plant diseases in agricultural ecosystems.

Dr. Chris Shogren, UC Cooperative Extension Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Current research focuses on management of insects, diseases, weeds, and irrigation in horticulture production systems and the urban forest.

Dr. Johanna Del Castillo Múnera, Assistant Professor of Cooperative Extension, Department of Plant Pathology, UC Davis.  Dr. Del Castillo is a plant pathologist with over a decade of experience in plant pathogens and their management and ecology in greenhouse and nursery production. 

Program: The program will begin with short talks from the panelists to let you know of their work on greenhouse and nursery sanitation, best management practices to prevent pests and diseases. Then the panelists will take questions from participants and offer advice on best management practices and sanitation on greenhouse and nursery facilities, as means to prevent pests and diseases.
